Post-Surgical Abstinence Fears Among Women Limit MC Roll-Out in Tororo, Uganda

Willy Mungoma, the district health educator, said most of the women think their husbands may take long to heal, thereby denying them sex.

“In our routine sensitisation programmes and radio tallkshows, women challenge us to explain how long their husbands would take to heal. This is because they think taking a long time to heal would make them miss sex,” he said.

According to the government newspaper in Uganda, women in Tororo Province, Uganda are impeding efforts to roll out male circumcision programs because they do not want to miss out on sex while their partners heal.  This might not be a variable that policymakers and NGOs have thought about in crafting their sensitization campaigns.  Perhaps a new research project for those out there studying public health interventions?
