Wurk Now Links Development Employers to Job Seekers

Online this month is a new development focused job board – Wurk Now.  This for-profit venture established by a Ugandan IT professional working in the development field hopes to link employers to job seekers.  Their mission statement reads:

Wurk Now! is a profitable social venture that is committed to improving access to entry and mid-level employment opportunities through internship, fellowship, volunteering and full time opportunities for recent graduates, talented individuals and seasoned experts. It is also geared towards advancing social change through Non-Profits, Do-Good Foundations and Profit Organizations with great Corporate Social Responsibility campaigns in the East African region that are willing to open up opportunities for the educated youth.

So far the cite is hosting a number of opportunities with the US Mission in Uganda, UNDP, USAID, Elizabeth Glaser Foundation, the Clinton Health Access Initiative, and Village Health Works, to name a few.  While the site is still building its list of job opportunities and partner organizations – the benefit to Wurk Now is that access to employment listings is absolutely free for job seekers, unlike similar websites like DevEx, which charge for premium access.

  1. Hey Amanda,

Thanks for posting about us. We really hope to realize change by improving access to employment opportunities through the Internet, where most of our target group spends their time. Hopefully, we can see a paradigm shift in how employers recruit in East Africa, especially through the Internet. Cheers!
